1. Announcement of the Award Decision for the 25th China Patent Award

On June 5, the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) announced the award decision for the 25th China Patent Award, recognizing patent holders, inventors, and related organizations that have made outstanding contributions to innovation and socio-economic development. This year, 30 invention and utility model patents, including "Method and Device for Manufacturing High-Voltage LDMOS Devices," were awarded the China Patent Gold Award, and 10 design patents, including "Automobile," received the China Design Gold Award. Silver awards, excellence awards, and organization awards were also announced simultaneously. Enterprises and institutions from Jiangsu Province won a total of 89 awards, including 3 China Patent Gold Awards, 5 Silver Awards, 73 Excellence Awards, 2 Design Silver Awards, and 6 Design Excellence Awards, ranking among the top in the country. The Jiangsu Provincial Intellectual Property Office has consecutively won the Best Organization Award of the China Patent Award for four sessions. The CNIPA called on intellectual property workers nationwide to take the awardees as examples and continue to promote the in-depth integration of building an intellectual property power and scientific and technological innovation.

2. OPPO Signs Global Cellular Communication Patent License Agreement with Volkswagen

On June 5, 2025, OPPO announced that it had reached a global patent license agreement with Volkswagen Group, granting Volkswagen’s global product lines licenses to essential cellular communication standard patents, including 5G, to support its connected vehicle business. This is the first bilateral patent license agreement signed by OPPO with an automobile company, marking OPPO’s expansion of cellular communication technology applications into the automotive sector. Lin Weizhi, Head of Patent Licensing at OPPO, stated that the cooperation reflects OPPO’s technological strength and commitment to building a sustainable intellectual property ecosystem. Robin Cefai, Volkswagen’s Intellectual Property Licensing Officer, said the cooperation is a model of efficiency, respect, and pragmatism in the industry. Currently, OPPO has deployed 5G patents in more than 40 countries and regions worldwide, ranking eighth globally in overall 5G patent strength. Its VOOC flash charging technology has been applied to over 10 million vehicles. OPPO’s global patent applications have exceeded 113,000, with continued focus on core technology areas such as 5G/6G, AI, and charging.

3. International Trademark Association (INTA) Releases 2026-2029 Strategic Plan

On May 18, 2025, the International Trademark Association (INTA) announced its strategic framework for the next three years, focusing on three main directions: first, to safeguard the value of intellectual property, promote the unification of global IP protection systems, strengthen the integration of technological innovation and legal frameworks, and build a multi-dimensional advocacy network involving governments, businesses, and consumers; second, to enhance collaborative development among members by launching innovative tools to address geopolitical and technological changes, and reshape the "Future INTA" organizational structure to improve adaptability; third, to build a responsible intellectual property ecosystem, promote inclusivity and ESG practices, and establish public platforms to popularize the value of intellectual property, guiding the sustainable development of the industry. This plan aims to consolidate INTA's position as a global brand value advocate and provide legal and strategic support for professionals to cope with business changes.
